Dear Colleague,
The Steering Group of the OGRS community would like to invite you to participate at the next Open Source Geospatial Research & Education Symposium on June 10 - 13, 2014 in Helsinki, Finland.

The new deadline for sending abstracts is January 17th.

The OGRS symposium is an excellent opportunity for researchers, teachers, students, developers, innovators and entrepreneurs interested in exploring the growing potential of free and open source geospatial software in research and education. Participants will learn about cutting-edge scientific findings and results obtained with free and open source geospatial software through presentations, hands-on workshops and discussions while enjoying the bright summer season in the beautiful Finnish scenery. To get a better idea, have a look at OGRS2012 proceedings ([heig.ch/bopihe]).

============== Symposium Topics ===================

Papers
----------------
Applications of Open Source Geospatial Tools in Education: Share your experience and present interesting use cases in applying open source technologies in education.
Applications of Open Source Geospatial Tools in Research: Present your original scientific findings, innovative developments or novel use cases of open source geospatial software.

Workshops
----------------
The workshops will provide an in-depth overview and hands-on experience in a topic and related free and open source geospatial software. Workshop leaders are researchers and/or core developers of the software and therefore well prepared to demonstrate and explain the software and its functionalities, and help the workshop participants learn the installation and use of the software. Participants also get information where to find more information about the software, download it, and how to contact or join the development team.

Discussion Groups
---------------------------
The aim of a discussion group is to talk about an initiative, open source project, new research idea, or a joint collaborative research paper in the area of open-source in geospatial.

About Call for Papers
-------------------------------
Please submit an abstract (1000 - 1500 words) on the abstract submission page. The abstracts will be reviewed by the conference scientific committee which will decide on accepting the original submission as an oral presentation (full conference paper) or as a poster. A full conference paper is then requested for each accepted oral presentation so as to be published in the peer reviewed conference proceedings. A subset selection of papers will be considered and assisted for publication in journals.
